issue I would like to see a case history showing before and after blood
lipids, including TG/HDL in chart form.
Wallace Dear Wallace, That's a great idea, and I invite readers of this e-zine to supply such a history, showing before-Zone and after-Zone bloodwork and telling us about your own Zone experiences. The September e-zine (see archives on home page of drsears.com) featured Dr. Robert Brookman in a story called "Physician heals himself." The story includes three charts. The first chart shows bloodwork numbers that concerned him. As a result, he went on a very high-carbohydrate, very low-protein diet that the "experts" told him would improve his numbers. The second chart gave numbers he received one year later. He was shocked because his numbers had gone from bad to worse. Fortunately, his wife gave him a copy of "The Zone." Six months after he entered the Zone, he was ecstatic when his bloodwork results were in. The third chart shows much improved numbers. His TG/HDL went from 16.5 to 1.3. Barry has always said that the blood doesn't lie, nor does it have a political agenda. Seeing such before-and-after numbers continues to increase the credibility of the Zone Diet. Lynn Dear Lynn, I just recently purchased the Zone Skin Care System. I am a little confused on when to use each product. Could you elaborate on the best time of day to use the products and give us your opinion of them. My skin already feels better in only a couple of days. There seems to be more Serum in the capsules than needed for one application. Can it be saved to the next day or for the evening? Thanks, Lynn. Kay Dear Kay, I like to use the Cellular
Serum and moisturizer in the morning and the repair at night, but many
people use them all together, usually in the morning. Recently, I went
on a week-long trip and forgot to bring the stuff. I really noticed a
change for the worse. Fortunately, when I went back on them, the damage
was undone. Lynn Dear Lynn, Hi, I have started the Zone Diet along with my husband and two of my children. I exercise vigorously daily. My percentage of body fat is 21 and using the formula in the book, I need 12 blocks a day. I am 47, have functional hypoglycemia and am also minus a thyroid gland due to cancer. Therefore, to prevent a reoccurrence of the cancer it is strongly recommended that for the rest of my life I remain in a hyperthyroid state (TSH below .1). Should I eat an additional block per day or perhaps additional protein in a block? Sometimes I am still hungry. Thanks, Dear Kathy, I checked with Barry and he suggests you add an extra block of protein, carbohydrate and fat because you are using up energy at a faster rate due to the hyperthyroid state. Lynn Dear Lynn, Are there any articles on weaning a baby from breast milk onto a Zone-favorable diet. My daughter is a convert to the Zone Diet but is facing heavy pressure from "experts" to start her seven-month-old baby girl on cereals. It's easy to get carbs. into baby food (mashed fruits), but how do you get the protein into baby food? Marie M. Dear Marie, Barry suggests adding about 7 grams of whey protein powder to the cereal or fruit. Lynn |
